Google Docs Lagging While Writing: Here’s A Fix

1. Reboot 

To begin, restart your computer. This may sound a little cliched, but it’s a cliche because it works for the vast majority of computer errors. You might also try restarting your browser, which has been known to help in some circumstances.

However, rebooting your computer is recommended because it clears out all unnecessary data-consuming system resources. As a result, any code that has become trapped in an unresponsive state will be erased after a restart. When you restart your computer, it starts over from the beginning, allowing all applications to function as intended.

Closing all program increases the resources available to your PC, which helps it run faster. As a result, the browser will have more RAM, the CPU will not be overloaded by other background apps, and your storage will be idle.

As a result, whether you use Google Documents in Chrome or any other browser, it will respond faster and better due to the availability of resources. If restarting doesn’t work, go to your PC settings and look for Refresh your PC under Troubleshoot. You will not lose any of your files if you restart your computer.

2. Update or try a different browser  

Check your browser for another solution to sluggish Google Documents. Because Google Docs is a browser-based word processor, it will not function without one. As a result, make sure the browser you’re using is up to the task of handling Google Documents.

One of the first things I’d recommend is that you make sure your browser is up to date. If your browser is out of date, you will experience many performance issues while accessing the web. This may fix Google Docs lagging if you download and install the update for your browser.

Perhaps your browser is up to date, but Google Documents is still slow. Another method to try with your browser is to close as many tabs as possible. For the greatest results, use Google Documents as the only tab open in the browser.

3. Disable extension and plugins  

Disabling extensions and plugins is another solution I advocate. Most modern web browsers come with a number of productivity-enhancing extensions and plugins. Nevertheless, these extensions and plugins inevitably slow down the browser, especially on a low-spec PC.

Preferably, I propose that users turn off these extensions and plugins momentarily, and then turn them back on when they’ve finished typing. For example, a plugin like Grammarly can be turned off briefly and then turned back on to correct errors after inputting the material.

4. Clear cache and cookies 

The more you use the internet, the more cookies and cache are stored in your browser. Browsing cache is a strategy for speeding up the loading of frequently visited websites. When the browser is overburdened with obsolete cache and cookies, however, things can slow down.

When things take longer to load in your browser, such as Google Docs, clearing cache and cookies is a good idea. However, this does not always work. Close the browser and restart it after clearing the cache and cookies, then test the responsiveness of Google Docs while typing and editing.

5. Use another PC with a better hardware specification 

Finally, if none of the aforementioned adjustments improve the speed of Google Documents, I believe it is time to consider upgrading your hardware. While other word processing applications, such as Microsoft Word, can run smoothly on a PC with modest specifications, Google Docs cannot.

Google Docs will handle enormous pages of documents and edit them smoothly with better technology. The nicest feature is that you can have dozens of them open at the same time without any issues. Hence, if you’re having trouble managing large word documents, simply upgrade to a PC with a faster processor and more RAM.
